Top Questions on Luxury Vinyl Floor Tiles (LVT Flooring)
LVT (luxury vinyl tiles) refers to several different, resilient flooring surfaces made from synthetic materials. We have plenty of glue-down LVT and SPC luxury vinyl flooring options available, all boasting excellent durability and a high-end look.
Designed to closely mimic natural wood and stone, our LVT flooring has been printed with realistic patterns and grains to create an authentic texture to match its dreamy aesthetic.
LVT can be made using several techniques but the most common is compressing multiple layers of synthetic materials to create the base of the tiles. The tiles are then topped with a decorative printed vinyl layer designed to mimic real wood or stone.
Finally, a clear protective layer - usually made from urethane or polyurethane – is added to make the tiles resistant to splashes and spills and keep them looking their best.
It’s important to note that our SPC vinyl tiles are made using different techniques from our glue-down LVT flooring and you might prefer them. We’ve written another question about the difference between LVT flooring and SPC to help you decide which is best for you.
We offer different thicknesses of LVT flooring, so you can choose whichever suits your needs.
Our thinnest LVT floors are 2mm and 3mm thick. These are slightly lower in price than our thicker LVT flooring options, so they’re a great choice if you’re working with a tight budget!
Next up in thickness are our 5mm and 6.5mm LVT ranges. These offer a little more cushioning underfoot, thanks to their extra thickness.
Our thickest LVTs are 8mm thick and the closest to natural wood.
Our SPC click flooring comes with an underlay attached , so you won’t need to worry about buying a separate one. However, some floors may need an extra underlay, so make sure to check the product description and spec when ordering and installing.
Our glue-down LVT doesn’t need any underlay, as the tiles are glued directly to the subfloor. The only exception is if you choose to use self-adhesive underlay to install your floor. Check out our installation guide, to see how it works.
The best flooring for your home will depend on your needs and tastes. That said, LVT flooring has increased durability and stability. Both glue-down vinyl flooring and SPC LVT flooring offer water-resistance - SPC is even waterproof!
It’s worth noting that some people do prefer the aesthetic and feel of laminate flooring, so compare the two if you’re unsure.
Both glue-down luxury vinyl floor tiles and SPC flooring are made from vinyl, but there are a few key differences between the two.
Glue-down LVT flooring is softer and more flexible than SPC, as it has a PVC core that allows it to bend easily.
LVT has always been a durable surface, but SPC takes it to the next level with added wear and film layers. SPCs are up to 5 times as thick as glue-down vinyl tile flooring and feature a strong stone plastic composite core. This type of construction not only makes SPC extremely tough but also means it remains stable on top of both electric and water-based underfloor heating, unlike traditional LVT floor tiles.
Our glue-down LVTs can only be used with water-based underfloor heating, so please check with your heating supplier before buying your floor.
The look of SPCs is another improvement over glue-down LVTs, and they now offer a much more realistic appearance of real wood or stone.
What are the benefits of LVT flooring?
LVT flooring is designed to be extremely durable and water-resistant (or in the case of SPC, waterproof,) making it suitable for all areas of the home. Available in a range of designs, such as wood effect and stone effect, it’s a great choice if you want a wood or stone floor, but your budget won’t stretch to the real thing.
Here are some benefits of choosing an LVT floor:
-
It’s Affordable – LVT is much lower in price than real wood, so it’s ideal if you’re working with a small budget. Unlike solid wood, SPC click vinyl is quick and easy to fit, so you could install it yourself and avoid paying for a professional fitter. Keep in mind that glue-down LVT is best fitted by a professional (unless you really know your stuff!)
-
It’s Durable – LVT is incredibly resilient, making it ideal if you’ve got kids or pets or just a busy home with lots of people coming and going!
-
It’s Water-resistant – SPC vinyl is waterproof making it perfect for bathrooms and kitchens. Glue-down vinyl flooring is water-resistant but it’s still fine to fit it in your kitchen or bathroom, as long as it’s installed properly.
And if you’ve got little ones or a four-legged friend at home, you’ll have peace of mind, no matter whether you fit your LVT in the kitchen, the living room or the bedroom!
-
It’s Easy to Install – SPC LVT is fitted with a ‘click-fit’ system which means the tiles simply ‘click’ into place, eliminating the need for nails or glue. This handy joining system makes LVT flooring quick and easy to install, no matter whether you’re an experienced DIYer or a complete newbie. Glue-down LVT can be installed quickly too, but we recommend hiring a professional to make sure you get the best result!
-
Variety of Colours and Styles – Our LVT flooring options offer a range of styles and colours. Whether you’re looking for shades of oak or stone, a straight plank design or parquet, you’ll find a floor to suit your taste in our beautiful LVT collection.
-
It’s Easy to Clean – LVT is extremely easy to clean. All it needs is a daily sweep or vacuum to remove any dirt and debris and a weekly mop to keep it gleaming.
