Studley Orchard Engineered Oak

Description

A superb natural oak brushed and oiled engineered wood flooring The Studley Barn has a width of 125mm and come in random lengths between 300-1200mm and have an overall thickness of 14mm comprising of an 11mm multi-ply backing and a top 3mm layer of an oak veneer.

Brushed and oiled products are ideal for homes with pets due to the surface texture of the board making any claw marks or scratches pretty much unnoticeable. Multi-ply backed products such as this are also hugely resilient to temperature and humidity change which means that they can be laid in most rooms in the home, including conservatories, with the only exception being the bathroom.

Due to the stability of our engineered flooring products, laying the flooring in rooms with underfloor heating is not a problem and they are compatible with most systems in the modern home. Should you wish to revive your flooring, the 3mm wear layer, mentioned previously, enables you to sand down and refinish the surface up to 3 times. However this shouldn’t be necessary for the first 10-15 years in most domestic environments.

Each individual piece of timber has had a bevel carved into all four of the edges, meaning when two boards are fitted together there is a V shaped groove visible defining each individual plank, as can be seen in the images above. Each board is manufactured with a tongue and groove profile so that the boards can simply be slotted together. The tongue and groove system works by manufacturing two sides of the plank with a tongue and the opposing two sides with a groove, which neatly fit together.

The grade of this European oak is rustic. Thus meaning that it will contain some knots as is typical with most oak products.

There are 3 different methods of installation that can be used with this piece of flooring, these are; floating, nailed or fully glued down. You can read further into these methods by downloading our handy installation guide from the installation tab above!

Not as smooth or good quality as samples seem
22 Jan 2026
Samples can be deceiving, there were some very grainy, rough planks in our packs and quite a few that feel very much like they will splinter into someone's foot soon. It also dents easily as the top layer is not thick (though I knew it was only 3mm already). It's relatively easy to fit I will say, but I'd go for something smoother and thicker if I could choose again. If you do buy this, buy a good 20% more than your area so you can get rid of the bad planks and just use the good ones.

Response from Admin
Thank you for taking the time to leave such an honest review. We’re really sorry to hear you were disappointed with some of the boards in your packs, and that the finish felt more grainy and rough than you expected from the samples. As engineered wood is a natural product, each plank will vary in grain pattern, texture and character, and sometimes boards can feel more heavily brushed or textured depending on the batch. That said, we completely understand your concern if certain planks felt excessively rough or as though they may splinter underfoot — that’s not what we want anyone to experience. We also appreciate your comments around denting. As with all real wood flooring, engineered boards can be more susceptible to dents and marks depending on the timber species, grade and finish, especially in busy family homes. If you ever need guidance on maintenance, protective measures, or choosing a smoother/more durable finish in future, our team is always here to help. Thank you again for your feedback — it’s genuinely valuable and will be shared with our team.

For any first time fitters.. Make sure you tap the boards in place with a rubber mallet or use another piece of wood inbetween the plank and the hammer otherwise you’ll damage the planks. Seems obvious but we damaged a couple planks before working this out. Great quality floor though and looks fantastic now we’ve fitted it.
